Day Two of the ongoing Oval Test proved to be a gripping affair, and now the action shifts to Day Three with India set to resume their second innings at 75/2, holding a 52-run lead.
Yashasvi Jaiswal remains unbeaten on 51, showing aggressive intent, while nightwatchman Akash Deep is at the crease with him. With eight wickets in hand, India will aim to build a strong lead, while England will look to make early inroads to seize control.
The game is evenly poised, but will the weather allow a full day’s play? According to AccuWeather, Day Three is expected to remain largely sunny with some cloud cover, but no rain interruptions are predicted. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 22°C.
The overcast conditions may aid the bowlers, potentially making life difficult for the batters. However, fans can look forward to a full day of action at The Oval.
Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took eight wickets together
Day Two began with India resuming their first innings at 204/6, with Karun Nair and Washington Sundar at the crease. But the morning session turned disastrous for the visitors as they managed to add just 20 runs to their overnight score, getting bowled out for 224.
Karun Nair scored 57, while Sundar added 26. England’s Gus Atkinson starred with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul, while Josh Tongue took three wickets. England came out all guns blazing in reply, racing to 92 for the opening wicket in just 12.5 overs, thanks to Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley.
Duckett was dismissed for 43, and England reached 109/1 at lunch. However, India responded strongly in the second session, tightening their lines and picking wickets regularly. The hosts stumbled to 215/7 by Tea.
Crawley top-scored with 64, but England's middle order, including captain Ollie Pope and veteran Joe Root, failed to convert their starts. Harry Brook’s counterattacking 53 off 64 balls proved vital, helping England edge ahead with a first-innings total of 247 — a lead of 23 runs. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were the pick of the Indian bowlers, each claiming four wickets.
In their second innings, India lost KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan early, but Jaiswal’s unbeaten fluent fifty steadied the innings.
