ENG vs IND: Weather Forecast for Day 2 of Oval Test

Day one of the Oval Test saw few rain interruptions, limiting play to just 64 overs. India ended the day at 204/6, with Karun Nair and Washington Sundar unbeaten on 52 and 19 respectively. Now, both batters will resume the innings on day two as India aim to post a competitive total, while England will look for quick breakthroughs.

But will rain interrupt play again on day two? That remains to be seen. According to the AccuWeather website, showers are expected at several intervals through the day. However, after 2 PM local time, the forecast shows clearer skies. The temperature is expected to reach a high of 22°C, with humidity around 75%.

So, much like day one, day two could also face disruptions at The Oval. If the overcast conditions continue, the first session will be crucial for both sides—especially for India’s batters.

Karun Nair’s gritty fifty on day one

On day one, both Indian openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, got out cheaply. Then, skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan appeared to be building a promising partnership before rain forced an early lunch. After the break, only six overs were bowled before another interruption—and during that brief period, miscommunication between Gill and Sudharsan led to the captain’s run-out.

Rain then washed out the remainder of the second session. In the third and final session, with no further weather delays, India managed to add 119 runs for the loss of three wickets. Sudharsan made 38, while Ravindra Jadeja (9) and Dhruv Jurel (19) failed to capitalise.

It was a big opportunity for Karun Nair, and he stepped up under pressure. After being dropped for the Manchester Test due to low scores in the first three games, Nair fought hard at The Oval and ended the day unbeaten on 52. Washington Sundar also showed his value with the bat, finishing the day on 19*.

For England, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue took two wickets each, while Chris Woakes claimed one. However, Woakes suffered a shoulder injury while trying to save a boundary late in the day. Whether he will bowl again in the match remains uncertain.
