Now, all eyes turn to Day 2—and the weather. According to AccuWeather, there is a 40–50% chance of rain between 2–4 PM local time. However, most of the day is expected to be clear. Despite those brief rain chances, the match is unlikely to face major interruptions.

India will be hoping for a strong start in the first session. If they can get through the new ball spell, a big first-innings total could be on the cards. England, on the other hand, will be keen to strike early. They are expected to take the second new ball in the morning and try to use the conditions to their advantage.

Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a fifty each

On Day 1, India’s openers set the tone with a solid partnership. KL Rahul looked in fine touch before getting out for 46, while Yashasvi Jaiswal made 58. Together, they added 94 runs for the first wicket in 30 overs.

Sai Sudharsan, who returned to the XI in place of Karun Nair, grabbed his chance with a patient 61 off 151 balls. However, India suffered a setback when captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for just 12 by England skipper Ben Stokes.

The biggest concern came late in the day when Rishabh Pant had to retire hurt. He was batting on 37 when he attempted a reverse sweep to a yorker-length delivery from Chris Woakes. He under-edged the ball onto his boots and immediately looked in pain. England appealed for LBW and even took a review, but UltraEdge showed a clear under-edge. Pant was not out, but he could barely stand.

He had to be helped off the field using a medical buggy. First taken to the medical facility at the ground, he was later moved to a hospital for scans. His condition remains uncertain. With Pant’s fitness now in question, India could be facing a tough situation going forward.

As Day 2 begins, India will look to build on their total. But the main concern remains Pant’s availability for the rest of the Test.
