Day one of the second Test between England and India at Edgbaston saw 85 overs of play, with India ending strongly at 310/5 after being asked to bat first. Skipper Shubman Gill led from the front with his second century of the series and remained unbeaten alongside veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
As day two approaches, all eyes will be on Gill and Jadeja as they aim to carry on their partnership and ensure India don’t suffer another batting collapse like in both innings of the Leeds Test. But before play resumes, fans will be eager to know about the weather.
According to AccuWeather.com, the weather on day two is expected to be similar to day one. The temperature is expected to range between 18°C and 22°C, with no significant threat of rain. A bright and sunny day is forecast, so a full day’s play looks likely with minimal interruptions.
Gill’s Century and Jaiswal’s missed Ton
India made three changes to their playing XI from the Leeds Test. Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Akash Deep replaced Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur, and Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah, though available for selection, was rested—a decision that surprised many fans and experts alike.
India had a shaky start as KL Rahul was dismissed early for just two runs. Karun Nair, who was brought in at number three, added 80 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the second wicket. Nair, however, fell for 31 after a promising start.
Gill walked in at number four and provided stability to the innings. He shared a 66-run stand with Jaiswal, who once again batted impressively but missed out on a deserved century, falling for 87 off 107 balls.
Rishabh Pant looked fluent during his stay but couldn't convert his start, getting out for 25. Nitish Kumar Reddy’s comeback also didn’t go as planned, as he was bowled for just 1 run.
At 211/5, India were in a tricky spot, but Gill and Jadeja dug in to steady the ship. The pair added an unbeaten 99-run stand for the sixth wicket, guiding India to a solid finish on day one.
Gill remains unbeaten on 114 off 216 balls, while Jadeja is not out on 41 off 67. India will resume day two at 310/5, looking to post a big first-innings total. Meanwhile, England will aim to strike early and wrap up the Indian innings quickly.
