India skipper Rohit Sharma has been phenomenal throughout the ongoing West Indies tour. In two Test matches, Rohit scored 240 runs, including a century, to help India win the series. However, it's worth noting that Rohit is in the twilight of his career, and the Indian team is also going through a major transformation.

Speaking about the same, former Sri Lanka pacer, Chaminda Vas has named Rohit's successor in the longest format of the game. According to Vas, batsman Shreyas Iyer will be a great option for the position, and he will lead the Indian team in the future. "Shreyas Iyer will be the best captain. In his first Test, he scored a hundred, and he has good leadership skills. The way I see it, he can handle the team. He will be the best option going forward", says the left-arm pacer.

It's worth noting that Iyer is currently out of the Indian team due to an injury. The right-handed batter has been phenomenal throughout his Test career, as he scored a hundred on his Test debut in 2021. Apart from this, he is also a great leader, having led the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

When will Shreyas Iyer make a comeback?

Speaking about his fitness, fans and cricket pundits are waiting for Shreyas Iyer to make a comeback for the national team. Iyer has started batting practice in the nets but is looking far from recovery. He might get a chance to make a comeback through the Asia Cup, but if he fails to do so, he will miss the prestigious ODI World Cup.

Meanwhile, apart from Iyer, the team is also waiting for wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul to make a comeback. Rahul is also rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy and is looking to make a comeback. He is not included in India's squad for Ireland but might get a chance in India's Asia Cup squad. The Asia Cup tournament will be played from August 31 to September 9 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
