New Zealand locked horns with England in the second match of the two-match Test series in Wellington. The visitors were coming off a convincing victory in the series opener. While the Kiwis were looking for a win to draw the series. Speaking of the match, the home side won the toss and opted to bowl first.
For England, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett came out to open the innings. But, the Kiwi bowlers started the game well as England lost three wickets for just 21 runs in 6.4 overs. Then, Harry Brook and Joe Root put up a solid partnership of 302 runs for the fourth wicket. Brook scored 186 runs off 176 balls, including 24 fours and five sixes.

He batted at a strike rate of 105.68 in Test cricket once again. Along with him, Root also smashed 153* runs off 224 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. Then, other batters came up with some contributions as England declared their first innings on 435 runs for eight wickets in 87.1 overs. For New Zealand, Matt Henry grabbed four wickets for 100 runs in 22.1 overs. But, in reply, the Kiwis failed miserably and got bundled out for just 209 runs in 53.2 overs. Then, the visitors enforced the follow-on and New Zealand batters showed a great fight in their second innings. They scored 483 runs in 162.3 overs while Kane Williamson scored 132 runs off 282 balls.
He smashed 12 boundaries. Along with him, Daryl Mitchell scored 54 runs while Tom Blundell scored 90 runs. For England, Jack Leach managed a fifer and England got a target of 258 runs. Then, Joe Root showed his class again as he scored 95 runs off 113 balls, including eight boundaries and three sixes. Both Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes scored 33 and 35 runs respectively. But, they lost the match by just one run as England got bundled out for 256 runs in 74.2 overs. Neil Wagner took four wickets with the ball and ensured his team’s victory in the enthralling battle. Williamson won the player of the match award while Brook bagged the player of the series award. After this win, the series ended 1-1 as the home side registered a memorable win over the visitors.
