The second match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is going on in Delhi between India and Australia. After winning the series opener comfortably, India were looking to win this match to strengthen their grip on the series. But, all eyes were on Virat Kohli as he had a chance to complete 25000 international runs at his home ground, Delhi.
Before this match, the former India skipper needed just 52 runs to achieve the milestone. So, fans were eager to see him achieve the milestone in this ongoing Test. In the first match, Virat failed to score big as he managed only 12 runs off 26 runs, with two fours. So, the stage was set for Kohli in this match.
Virat Kohli scored 44 runs off 84 balls in the first innings of the Delhi Test
Speaking of the match, Australia batted first and got bundled out for 263 runs in their first innings. In reply to that, India were in trouble when they lost both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma after scoring 53 runs. Then, Virat Kohli came out to bat and tried to play a gritty knock on that turning track against the Aussie spinners. But, he scored 44 runs off 84 balls, including four boundaries. But, rather than his dismissal, the decision given by the umpire, Nitin Menon made controversy. The incident took place during the 50th over of India’s innings. Debutant Matthew Kuhnemann was bowling.
On the third delivery of that over, Kohli went for a front-foot defense. But, the ball hit the pads and the Aussies went for a loud appeal. Umpire Nitin Menon gave him out and Kohli went for a review. During the replay, it was seen that the ball might have hit both the pad and bat at the same time. But, the third umpire, Richard Illingworth did not overturn the decision and thus, Kohli got out. After that dismissal, fans went berserk and slammed both umpires. Rohit Sharma was seen with a shocking reaction to that decision. Even, Virat Kohli also came up with a shocking expression while watching that decision in replays in the dressing room.
