On 10 June 2023, the eyes were set on the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final for an enthralling action between India and Australia on day four. The Aussies finished day three with 123 runs on the board for four wickets with a lead of 296 runs. So, they were looking to add more runs while India were looking to bowl them out as quickly as possible.
However, the Men in Blue did not disappoint as Umesh Yadav struck early. He dismissed Marnus Labuschagne as he scored 41 runs off 126 balls, including four boundaries. Then, another overnight batter, Cameron Green got out to Ravindra Jadeja as he scored 25 runs off 95 balls, including four boundaries.
India need 280 runs on Day five with seven wickets in hand to win the final
It was Jadeja’s third wicket in that innings. After that when Rohit Sharma and his men were looking to finish Australia's tail-enders quickly, Mitchell Starc stitched a partnership of 93 runs for the seventh wicket with the wicketkeeper batter, Alex Carey. Starc scored 41 runs off 57 balls, including seven fours. Then, Pat Cummins came and the Aussie skipper added only five runs before getting out. Carey remained not out on 66* runs off 105 balls, including eight fours. Thus, Australia declared their second innings after scoring 270 runs for eight wickets with a lead of 443 runs. They set a huge target of 444 runs for Team India.
For India, Jadeja took three wickets while both Umesh and Mohammed Shami took two wickets each. Siraj also grabbed one wicket. During the chase, both Shubman Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma gave a good start. But, Gill got out on 18 runs after a controversial decision given by the TV umpire over a catch from Cameron Green. Then, Rohit got out after scoring 43 runs off 60 balls, including seven fours and one six. He failed to convert his start to a big score. Then, Pujara got out on 27 runs off 47 balls and suddenly, India were in all sorts of trouble after losing three wickets for 93 runs. Then, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane steadied the ship and saw off the day without losing further wickets. Thus, India finished day four with a score of 164 runs for three wickets while they need more 280 runs to win this final on day five.
