On 13 May 2023, the stage was set at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad for the 58th match of the ongoing IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) took on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Before this clash, LSG were in the fifth spot with 11 points in 11 games. But, SRH were in the ninth spot with eight points in 10 games.

In the reverse fixture, LSG defeated SRH by five wickets in Lucknow. So, LSG were looking to double over them this year. In contrast, SRH were looking to avoid a win this time in front of the home crowd. Speaking of the match, Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bat first. Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma came out to open the innings. 

LSG defeated SRH by seven wickets in Hyderabad

However, Abhishek scored only seven runs. Anmolpreet Singh scored 36 runs off 27 balls. Then, Rahul Tripathi failed again after getting a start. He scored 20 runs off 13 balls. Then, Markram scored 28 runs off 20 balls while Glenn Phillips managed a golden duck. After that, for the sixth wicket, Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad put up a partnership of 58 runs. Klaasen scored 47 runs off 29 balls while Samad remained not out on 37* runs off 25 balls. Finally, they scored 182 runs for six wickets in 20 overs.

In reply, LSG batters were seen in a struggle to score runs quickly in the first six powerplay overs. They managed only 30 runs for one wicket. Kyle Mayers scored two runs while Quinton de Kock scored 29 runs off 19 balls. Prerak Mankad came out to bat at number three and scored fifty in 35 balls. The Aussie all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis smashed 40 runs off 25 balls, including two fours and three sixes. Then, Nicholas Pooran came out and smashed three consecutive sixes in the first three balls he faced. Finally, Pooran scored 44* runs off 13 balls and Mankad scored 64* runs off 45 balls. Thus, LSG chased down the target in 19.2 overs with seven wickets in the bag.
