An image that is doing the round of social media has pit Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni fans against each other. The image is a side-by-side comparison of two batting performances, one by Virat Kohli and the other by MS Dhoni.
While Kohli's image is from a Test match against Australia, where he scored a patient 186 off 364 balls, Dhoni's image is from an Indian T20 League match, where he was playing for the Pune franchise against Kolkata. The image shows four fielders positioned close to the wicketkeeper, while Dhoni is seen batting. Whereas in the case of Kohli, the fielders are placed at the boundary line in the recently concluded 4th Test match between India and Australia.
Fans of both players have taken to Twitter to express their opinions and defend their favorite player. While some fans of Kohli have used this opportunity to praise his patience and temperament, others have criticized Dhoni's strike rate in T20 cricket. Dhoni's fans, on the other hand, have defended him, saying that the image does not tell the whole story and that Dhoni's strike rate in T20 cricket is not a matter of concern.
It is worth noting that comparing two performances from different formats of the game is not a fair assessment. Test cricket demands a different approach from T20 cricket, and players like Kohli and Dhoni have shown their class in both formats. While Kohli's approach in the Test match was to build a steady partnership, Dhoni's approach in the T20 match would have been to score quick runs and take advantage of the fielding restrictions.
As is the case with Indian fans however, they have begun questioning Dhoni's ability with a single image and putting Kohli ahead of him when it comes to batting. There were many replies who were supporting Dhoni as well.
Here's how Twitter reacted:Β
The guy on the right side has higher overall strike rate than Kohli.

Situations demand and dictate this game, beauty of cricket..pretty sure even Dhoni's attacking test knocks and playing with tail would have got all fielders on the boundary.
