On the Beard Before Wicket podcast, legendary West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo talked about his journey from a world-renowned player to his new prominent mentoring position. The 42-year-old was challenged to put up a "dream team" that he feels is the ultimate example of the shortest format during the extensive discussion with broadcasters Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.

Bravo, who just joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) support staff for the 2026 season, assembled a team that strikes a mix between the Caribbean's raw power and the tactical wisdom and technical excellence he saw throughout his record-breaking career. His choices provide an intriguing window into the thoughts of a player who has won more Twenty20 championships than anyone else in the sport's history.

He selected Chris Gayle, the explosive former West Indies opener and T20's top run scorer, and his former CSK partner Shane Watson for the opening spot. This decision was rather controversial because he did not select Indian legend Rohit Sharma. He placed seasoned Indian batsman Virat Kohli at number three, followed by a few captivating Caribbean players.

With the addition of Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard, the middle order then shifts back into sheer destructive force, building a bridge to a finish led by MS Dhoni. Bravo famously referred to Dhoni as his "brother from another mother," highlighting the fact that Dhoni is the unquestionable centre of the team's batting structure due to his tactical composure and finishing prowess.

Next in line, at number seven, was Andre Russell and then followed by Bravo himself, who made the batting order as long and destructive as possible while also making bowling a very deadly option.

Bravo's bowling team is a remarkable set of experts with guys who have taken thousands of wickets worldwide. Leading the way are the spin tandem of Rashid Khan and Sunil Narine, who Bravo believes are the two hardest bowlers to read in the format's history.

Lasith Malinga was chosen due to his incredible brilliance in the game and will be the spearhead of the pace attack. Russell, Bravo, Watson, and Pollard will manage the pace department, giving them enough choices.
