The defending champions Australia took on the last year’s runners-up New Zealand in their tournament opener in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Aussie skipper Aaron Finch asked the Kiwis to bat first at the turf of Sydney Cricket Ground. Batting first, the Blackcaps posted a big total of 200 runs for the loss of only three wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Whereas Aaron Finch’s men fell short of the target by 90 runs and got bundled up only on the score of 111 runs in 17.1 overs and lost the match by 89 runs. It was also like redemption for New Zealand as they lost the final of the 20-20 World Cup 2021 against the Aussies.
Cricket fans were also overwhelmed by the stellar performance of Kane Williamson & co. They took to Twitter for appreciating the Kiwis for registering an emphatic win in the tournament opener against the reigning champions.

Speaking of the match, the opening pair Finn Allen and Devon Conway provided a good start of 56 runs for the first wicket. Wicketkeeper-opener Devon Conway played a brilliant knock of 92 runs off just 58 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes to his name. Finn Allen also contributed with a swashbuckling knock of 42 runs off just 16 balls with five boundaries and three maximums on his credit. On the back of these knocks, New Zealand posted a massive total of 200 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs.
While defending the target, the Kiwi bowlers completely outmuscled the Aussie batting line up by bundling them up only on the score of 111 runs in 17.1 overs. Senior pacer Tim Southee and spinner Mitchell Santner scalped three wickets each. Whereas Trent Boult also took two wickets alongside one-each scalp by Lockie Ferguson and Ish Sodhi.
Eventually, New Zealand started their campaign with a win in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 with an emphatic win of 89 runs.
