Another World Cup year in the great game of cricket is underway as the 2023 edition of the marquee tournament is set to be held in India later this year in the month of October-November. The men in blue will be eyeing to lift the title of the ODI World Cup after a wait of 12 years since they won last time in the year 2011 played in India only.
Speaking of the performance of the men in blue in the international, they have outclassed the top teams of the world in a couple of bilateral assignments. But still, the fans have angst with their national team as they failed to win any major international tournament since MS Dhoni-led Team India won the 2013 Champions Trophy almost 10 years back in the year 2013.
Meanwhile, the veteran Indian all-rounder and one of the modern-day greats Ravichandran Ashwin has come up with a big statement on MS Dhoni. Subsequently, the 36-year-old was also blamed for increasing the hopes and expectations of the fans with the national side of India winning the major international tournaments in all appearances.
"The great Sachin Tendulkar played 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, and 2007 World Cups and finally won in 2011"
Ashwin also compared it with the journey of former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar and said how it took 6 World Cup editions for Sachin to live the dream of his cricketing life.
"It's easy to say you haven't won this and so on. After the 1983 World Cup, the great Sachin Tendulkar played the 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, and 2007 World Cups. He finally won the World Cup in 2011. He had to wait for 6 World Cups to finally win one," said Ashwin in a video on his YouTube Channel.
"Just because another stalwart MS Dhoni came and won a World Cup as soon as he took charge, doesn't mean it'll happen to everyone, right?" he added later.
