Chennai was asked to bat first on a batting paradise at Brabourne Stadium. Ruturaj Gaikwad, unfortunately, got run out for just 1 run, but Robin Uthappa gave the team a blistering start with the bat.

He notched his half-century in just 27 balls. The likes of Shivam Dube (49 off 30) and Ambati Rayudu (27 off 20) also played crucial knocks in the middle overs, and as a result of that, Chennai notched a huge 210-run total in the first innings.

In pursuit of that, Lucknow also made a great start, courtesy of a 99-run opening partnership between KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. Both made significant contributions to the total. Later, Evin Lewis produced a brilliant 55-run unbeaten knock in 23 balls to help the team chase down the score in 19.3 over. Young rising star Ayush Badoni, once again, showcased his batting prowess, playing a useful unbeaten cameo of 16 runs in 6 deliveries.
