Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been the second-most successful team in the history of IPL. After Mumbai Indians, CSK have won this prestigious trophy four times. In the ongoing IPL 2023 also, they have managed to get a good start. In the first four matches, MS Dhoni and his men have won two games while losing the other two.

But, now, CSK have come into the headlines for a different reason as Tamil Nadu MLA SP Venkateshwaran came up with a surprising demand in the recent State Assembly session. This statement came before the CSK vs RR clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium Chepauk. RR won the game by three runs.

“The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team has not selected even one player from the State.” - Tamil Nadu MLA SP Venkateshwaran

SP Venkateshwaran requested the Tamil Government to put a ban on CSK as they do not have any players from the state. He also raised concerns about CSK promoting them as a team from Tamil Nadu without having any local players to their services. He said, "Even though there are talented players in Tamil Nadu, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team has not selected even one player from the State. They are making a profit from our people by advertising as if they are a Tamil Nadu team." In reply to that, Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin raised questions on the contribution of the home tickets of CSK.

He said: "This is the first time we are hosting matches in four years. Moreover, the IPL is managed by the Indian Cricket Board. Jay Shah, son of your close friend Amit Shah, is the head of the Indian Cricket Board. Ask them for tickets. If we ask for tickets, they won't listen to us. But they will listen to you." Listening to such comments, fans were not happy and they slammed the politician heavily on social media. CSK will be in action on 17 April when they will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bengaluru.
