Prasad took to Twitter to take an indirect hit on Virat Kohli. He said that all the greats of the game have been dropped at some point when they failed to perform, but he believed that seemed to have changed now. He pointed out that the out-of-form players should return to domestic cricket.

"There was a time when you were out of form, you would be dropped irrespective of reputation. Sourav, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Zaheer, Bhajji all have been dropped when not in form. They have went back to domestic cricket, scored runs and staged a comeback," he wrote.

"The yardsticks seem to have changed drastically now, where there is rest for being out of form. This is no way for progress. There is so much talent in the country and cannot play on reputation. One of India’s greatest match-winner, Anil Kumble sat out on so many ocassions, need action for the larger good," he added.

Although he did not mention Virat's name, it was clear that he was speaking of the former Indian captain. This did not sit well with Virat Kohli supporters. They lashed out at the former Indian pacer for doubting Virat's abilities.

Many fans even pointed out that a team should carry its great players irrespective of their forms. "That guy has the second best average in T20Is since 2020, with a strike rate of 136. WHO is the first? Deepak Hooda with a sample size of 4 innings. With all due respect to Venky Sir, you can’t drop your ‘second best’. We even carried Sachin, for a brief period," a fan wrote.
