The stage was set at Arun Jaitely Stadium, Delhi on 20 May 2023 as Delhi Capitals (DC) took on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL. However, it was a crucial match for MS Dhoni and his men to seal a place in the playoff. Before this clash, DC were in the ninth spot with 10 points in 13 games.

While CSK were in the second spot with 15 points in 13 games. So, David Warner and his men were looking to spoil the party for CSK. Speaking of the match, Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. However, both Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a solid start to the innings with some blistering strokes.

CSK defeated DC by 77 runs in IPL 2023

For the first wicket, they put up a partnership of 141 runs in 14.3 overs. Gaikwad scored 79 runs off 50 balls, including three fours and seven sixes. Then, Shivam Dube played a quickfire inning and put up a partnership of 54 runs for the second wicket with Conway. Dube smashed 22 runs off nine balls, including three sixes. Conway also scored 87 runs off 52 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja played a nine-ball cameo as he smashed 20* runs. Thus, CSK scored 223 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. For DC, Khaleel Ahmed, Anrich Nortje, and Chetan Sakariya took one wicket each.

Then, for the chasse, DC had a terrible start as they were struggling at 26 runs for three wickets in 4.5 overs. Only David Warner was fighting alone as he was not getting any help from others. Deepak Chahar had a good outing as he took three wickets for 22 runs in four overs. Finally, Warner scored 86 runs off 58 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. Dc scored 146 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs and CSK won the match by 77 runs. With this win, CSK became the second team to get qualified for the Playoffs.
