Ambati Rayudu was a part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the recently concluded IPL as they won their fifth title in the history of the tournament. In the final, the veteran batter played an impactful knock during the chase. After that, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

After the final, he said: “It's a fairytale finish. I couldn't have asked for more. I'm fortunate to have played in really great sides. I can smile for the rest of my life. All the hard work I've done in the last 30 years, I'm happy I got to finish on this note. I would really like to thank my family, my father. Without them this wouldn't have been possible.”

Ambati Rayudu played 55 ODIs for India

But, now in a recent interview on TV9 Telegu, Rayudu opened up about his snub from the 2019 ODI World Cup from Team India despite playing at the number four position before that tournament for a considerable time. It was quite shocking for fans also when the Men in Blue decided to take Vijay Shankar instead of him. He said: "The Indian Cricket Board officials in 2018 told me to be prepared for the 2019 World Cup." For India, he played 55 matches and scored 1694 runs, at an average of 47.05 and a strike rate of 79.04. He smashed 10 fifties and three centuries.

Rayudu also played only six T20Is. CSK head coach, Stephen Fleming opened up about it during the post-match press conference and said: "Ambati Rayudu has been an absolute legend. I rate him so highly as a batter and those three balls against Mohit Sharma today proved against one of the most in-form bowlers… to hit him for 6, 4 and 6 was sheer class. Rayudu will leave a hole, there is no doubt about it, but the game keeps moving. Doesn’t it? We expected that for him to go out like that was pretty emotional within the group and for him as well."
