Shreyas Iyer is currently not a part of the ongoing IPL. In his absence, Nitish Rana is leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, due to his back issues, Iyer got ruled out of the tournament. He was a part of team India when they play against Australia at home in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

But, during the fourth Test of that series, he did not come out to bat. Later, it got confirmed that Iyer had some back issues and hence, he was taken to the hospital for further scans. After that, reports came out that surgery might be required for recovery. But, Iyer was not looking for it as it might keep him out of the action from the upcoming ODI World Cup also.

Shreyas Iyer might get fit for the 2023 ODI World Cup 

As per the current situation, he is going to miss the upcoming WTC final for Team India against Australia. The match will take place from 7-11 June in England. But, now, reports have come out that Shreyas Iyer has undergone a successful back surgery in the UK. It further added that he might now get fit for the ODI World Cup in India. According to the report by Times of India, “Shreyas Iyer underwent a successful surgery on Tuesday in London. In fact, he walked a bit too yesterday”. Seeing such a positive report, fans shared their views on social media.

However, Iyer has been a good and consistent performer for Team India in both Tests and ODIs in recent months while batting in the middle order. So, his role is going to be crucial, especially in the Indian conditions during the upcoming 50-over World Cup. However, before IPL 2023, KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit opened up about his unavailability for the tournament. While talking to reporters, he said: “Shreyas' absence will make a difference since he is important, but this is truly unfortunate. We are hoping Shreyas will be back very soon and that will make a lot of difference to the team". But, as he is going to miss the tournament, KKR roped in 20-year-old, Aarya Desai.
