Devajit Saikia confirms BCCI will raise the Asia Cup trophy handover issue at the ICC meeting

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the board will raise the delayed Asia Cup trophy handover at the ICC meeting, citing ACC's silence. The issue stems from India's refusal to accept the trophy from the ACC Chairman/Pakistan's Interior Minister after winning the final.

India won the 2025 Asia Cup more than a month ago, but the trophy hasn't arrived yet. According to reports, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has now chosen to turn over the agenda to the ICC.

The board's plan to bring up the issue at the next International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Dubai on November 4 has been confirmed by BCCI joint secretary Devajit Saikia, who is hopeful that the trophy will soon arrive at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. This judgment comes after a formal correspondence was received 10 days earlier, but the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) failed to respond.

There was chaos at the trophy ceremony because India refused to accept it from Naqvi, who is also Pakistan's Interior Minister. An official took the Asia Cup trophy off the elevated dais and carried it off the ground without providing an explanation in response to India's decision.

“We have approached the ACC and sent a letter 10 days ago. There has been no positive response. We are maintaining our stand and will raise the issue at the ICC meeting, which begins on November 4 in Dubai. The trophy will come, and that is for certain because it has been won by India hands down. Only the timeline needs to be fixed," Devajit Saikia told ANI.

“If we had to accept it from him, we would have done so on the day of the final. Our stance is clear: we are not accepting it from that gentleman. There is no change of position on the part of BCCI. We are not accepting the trophy from the ACC Chairman, who is the Interior Minister of Pakistan. Therefore, it has to come but not from his hands," he added.

India won its ninth Asia Cup with the victory in Dubai. Due to past cross-border hostilities between the two nations, the team decided not to receive the trophy from Naqvi, who is also the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which led to chaotic scenes. India's championship victory was celebrated without an actual trophy or player medals.
