The player's auction for the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 league is being organized at Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai. Five teams including each from Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Lucknow, and Gujarat are bidding to get the best player on board. Indian openers bagged big during the auction as Smriti Mandhana sold to the Bangalore franchise for a staggering Rs 3.4 crore, while her partner Shafali Verma was bought by the Delhi-based franchise for Rs 2 crore.

India U19 world cup-winning captain Shafali Verma attracted an intense bidding war between Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. However, Delhi managed to steal the deal and roped in the explosive batter into their squad. Shafali has been amazing since her debut against South Africa in 2019 she has been phenomenal on the job.

The 19-year-old right-hand batter in T20 internationals has scored 1264 runs in 52 matches at a strike rate of 134.47 runs. In the recent game against Pakistan Shafali played a cracking inning of 33 runs off 20 balls at a strike rate of 155. Her innings helped India to win a nail-biting encounter.

Delhi bought three top batters in no time

The Delhi-based franchise has bought three top-class batters in no time as the team won bids for Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Meg Lanning. Apart from Shafali Delhi also purchased Meg Lanning, one of Australia's most successful female captains, for INR 1.4 crore. Under Lanning's leadership, Australia's women's team has excelled in many multi-nation events. Lanning has led them to win gold in the Commonwealth Games and claim both the Women's 50-over World Cup and the 20-20 World Cup.

Although, Star India batter Jemimah Rodrigues also made it into the squad of the Delhi franchise as they bought her for Rs 2.2 crore. She is a talented batter who has risen in recent years and has become one of the key players of the Indian team. In India’s World Cup opener game against Pakistan Jemimah smashed a brilliant hundred and helped India to clinch the nail-biting match.
