On 8 April 2023, the stage was set at the Wankhede stadium as MI took on CSK in the ongoing IPL. Mumbai were looking for their first win of the season while CSK were looking for their second consecutive victory. So, an enthralling battle was waiting for teams and their respective fans.

Meanwhile, MI already came to this season without the services of their ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah due to his back issues. On the other hand, Sisanda Magala made his debut for CSK in the match. But, a funny incident took place when the playing XI of both teams came out. The Broadcaster used Bumrah’s image in Magala’s name and fans did not notice that. Seeing that, fans went berserk and shared funny views and memes on social media.

Speaking of the match, MI batted first and scored 157 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. In reply, CSK chased down the target in 18.1 overs with seven wickets in hand. Ravindra Jadeja won the Player of the Match award for taking three wickets in four overs after conceding 20 runs. After losing to Chennai, MI skipper, Rohit Sharma said: "We lost our way in the middle and did not capitalize on the start we got. It was a good pitch, 30-40 runs short, and could not capitalize in the middle overs. Got to credit their spinners, they bowled well and kept us under pressure. You need to try out different things, you need to attack and be brave".

He also added that senior guys including him need to take up more responsibilities. MI skipper said: "We have got a couple of young guys and got to give some time to them. They have real talent and we have to back them and show trust in their ability which we are doing. The senior guys need to step up starting with me. We know the nature of IPL, when the tournament starts we need to get some momentum and when you don't it is tough".
