‘Deepti ke saath khel ho gaya!’ - UP franchise slammed as Alyssa Healy named as the skipper for Women’s T20 League 2023

The Women’s T20 League is going to kick off on 4 March 2023. Both Gujarat and Mumbai franchises will lock horns with each other on the opening day of the tournament. It will be a huge opportunity for all the female cricketers in the opening season of the tournament. However, UP Franchise were one of the teams who made a strong squad after the auction.

The auction took place at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on 13 February 2023. The UP franchise bought the star India women’s all-rounder Deepti Sharma for INR 2.60 Crores. They even bought the star wicket-keeper batter from Australia, Alyssa Healy for INR 70 Lakhs. But, fans were hoping to see Deepti Sharma as the skipper of the franchise in the opening season.

Now, on 22 February. The UP franchise announced that Alyssa Healy will be the captain of the franchise. In a statement released by the franchise, Alyssa Healy said: “I am delighted to have the chance to captain the UP franchise in the inaugural edition of the historic Women’s T20 League that will be played in Mumbai. The Women’s T20 League is a tournament we have all been keenly waiting on, and the UP franchise have a fantastic squad, waiting to making a splash once things get going.”

“We have a good mix of experience and youth along with ability and look forward to putting on a show for our fans. We are here to win and be ruthless in our brand of cricket,” she further added. Speaking about Healy, she has played 139 T20Is so far for the Aussies. In 121 innings, she has scored 2446 runs at an average of 24.46, including one century and 14 fifties. Healy has won the Women's 20-20 World Cup five times in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, and 2020. Currently, she is busy playing for the Australia Women’s team in the ongoing World Cup in South Africa.
