Australia and Pakistan are playing the second Test match with the home side leading the series 1-0. Pat Cummins and his side had already won the first Test match by a massive margin of 360 runs in Perth last week.

As the focus shifts to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, the fans are turning up in huge numbers. David Warner the famed Australian opener is set to retire from the longest format of the game. This is the final time the 37-year-old will be playing in the Boxing Day Test match for his national side.

Ahead of his Test match retirement which is set to occur in Sydney, David Warner has named Marcus Harris as his replacement. The 31-year-old has played 14 games with his last Test coming against England in early 2022.

Speaking to the media, the 37-year-old said “Look, It’s a tough one, it’s obviously up to the selectors but from my position, I feel like the person who has worked their backside off and has been there for a while in the background, I think Marcus Harris has been that person”

David Warner also said “He’s always toured, he is going to have that chance. He scored a 100 the other day, he missed out in a couple of other games, but he’s always been that person who is next in the line. If the selectors show their faith in him, I’m sure he will come out and play in the way he does”

Finishing his statement, David Warner said “He is not too dissimilar to me, if he sees it in his areas, he goes for it and plays his shot. I think he’d fit well”. Marcus Harris has scored 607 runs with a best of 79 from his 14 test matches for Australia.

At the end of the 1st day’s play in MCG, Australia are 187/3 from 66 overs. Rain played spoilsport during the course of the day. Usman Khawaja was out for 42, while Warner scored 38. Steve Smith was out for 26. Marnus Labuschagne is not out on 44 as Travis Head kept him company on 9 not out.
