Daryl Mitchell replaces Virat Kohli as No.1 ODI batter in ICC Rankings

Daryl Mitchell surges to No.1 ICC ODI batting rankings (845 pts) after twin centuries vs India, displacing Virat Kohli (795 pts) to second. NZ's historic series win propels Mitchell past Kohli.

New Zealand middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell has displaced the Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli to reclaim the pole position in the ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings after winning the player of the series award against India in the three-match ODI series as New Zealand secured a 2-1 series win.

Mitchell started the three-match ODI series with an 84-run knock in the first ODI in Vadodara. Later, he went on to score an unbeaten 131-run knock in the second ODI in Rajkot. Subsequently, in the third ODI, he smacked an unbeaten 137-run knock in Indore to take his total to 352 runs, the most by a visiting batter in a series of three or fewer games in India.

Notably, Mitchell now has a career-best 845 rating points, the second-best by a New Zealand batter after Glenn Turner’s 854 in 1983. For the unversed, Mitchell topped the ODI batting rankings earlier in November 2025 for three days before being overtaken by Rohit Sharma.

On the other hand, Kohli is now trailing Mitchell by 50 rating points. Meanwhile, middle-order batter Glenn Phillips has also achieved a career-best 20th position after scoring 106 in the final ODI against India, while Will Young has ascended 10 slots to 44th position.

Also, India’s keeper-batter KL Rahul moved one spot up to the 10th rank. All-rounder Michael Bracewall has progressed in all three lists, up four places to 64th among batters, up six places to 33rd among bowlers and up to sixth among all-rounders. 

Delving into the details of the ODI bowling rankings, pace bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana has moved up 27 spots to the 50th rank, while his colleague Arshdeep Singh also rocketed 15 positions to the joint-54th rank.

In the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran has surged five places to the 15th position, while the West Indies dashing batter Johnson Charles moved six places up to 51st after their first T20I. Afghanistan spinners Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman rocketed two places each to second and 14th positions, respectively, while West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie has moved up from 48th to the 41st rank.
