Former Australian head coach Justin Langer recently opened up about two players who gave him a tough time when his boys were playing against Team India. Langer, who was at the helm from 2018 to 2022, revealed that he never relaxed until Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were dismissed during the series between India and Australia.

Kohli has been the backbone of the Indian cricket team for over a decade and has an excellent record against Australia. On the other hand, Rahul is one of India's most consistent and reliable middle-order batters in ODI and Test cricket. While heaping praise on the wicketkeeper-batter, the former Australia opener said Rahul is a dangerous and elegant player.

"When I was an Australian coach and we had a series against India, I never used to relax until Virat Kohli and KL Rahul got out. Because he is (Rahul) so dangerous player and he is such a beautiful elegant looking player," said Langer.

It is interesting to note that Rahul will be playing under the guidance of Langer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The 53-year-old was earlier announced as the new head coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), succeeding Zimbabwean cricketer Andy Flower. The Lucknow-based franchise made its IPL debut in 2022 and had two impressive seasons, reaching the playoffs both times. With Langer coming in 2024, it remains to be seen whether the Rahul-led team can achieve glory.

"He has experience. He can play to both sides of the ground. He plays spin and quick bowling well. I feel really grateful and I feel blessed to have a captain like KL Rahul. I am excited about that (teaming with KL Rahul)," Langer added.

Since his return from injury, Rahul has been in stellar form for Team India. In fact, he is a major force behind India reaching the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He also notched up a brilliant century in the recently concluded Centurion Test against South Africa.
