CWG 2022: Day 1 results for Indian contingent in all events

With results of events either in team or individual, here, we’ll have a look at the results of day 1 of CWG 2022 for the Indian contingent.

The Indian contingent started the first day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in a fashion. The players went on to beat several opponents across the participating countries. Indians gave a head start to their CWG 2022 campaign. cricket was played first time at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 in Malaysia. Indian women’s team, unfortunately, lost to the Australians after dominating half of the match.

Speaking about the results of other events either in team or individual, here, we’ll have a look at the results of CWG 2022’s day 1 for the Indian contingent.

Boxing

The senior boxer from the golden boxing generation of India, Shiva Thapa outplayed his Pakistani counterpart Baloch Suleman in the opening match. Thapa and Suleman locked horns with each other in the bout of 63.5 kg men’s boxing.

Thapa completely dominated the bout and won the match with a handsome score line of 5-0.

Swimming

In the 50m butterfly event, Sajan Prakash couldn’t make it to the semi-finals. Whereas Kushagra Rawat also missed entering the finals in 400m freestyle. But, it was a good day for Srihari Nataraj in 100m backstrokes as he made it to the semi-finals of the competition.

Para-swimmer Ashish Kumar ended up in eighth position men’s competition in the 100m backstrokes S9 final.

Cricket

Indian women’s cricket team was looking quite good against the world champion Australia. They were dominating the first half of the second innings but Renuka Thakur’s excellent spell couldn’t help the women in blue to win the match against the Aussies.

Hockey:

India's women’s hockey team started things in a brilliant style with an emphatic win of 5-0 over world number 30 Ghana.

Badminton

It went like an amazing or dream day for team India in the mixed team event of the Badminton. Indian shuttlers thrashed their Pakistani counterparts in the inaugural match of the competition.

Cycling:

India ended up in the seventh position in the qualification round of cycling. The women’s sprint team registered the timing 51.433. Eventually, the girls couldn’t qualify for the finals of the competition.

Speaking about the men’s pursuit competition, the Indian boys finished on the last position in the qualification round. They recorded a timing of 4:12.865. Also, in the men’s sprint competition, India finished sixth in the qualification round and couldn’t get into the semi-finals.

Table Tennis

India registered successive wins in the first two group matches of table tennis. They defeated the South African side in the first match with a score line of 3-0. Following the conclusion of the first match, the Indian team thrashed Fiji in the second match with an ending score line of 3-0.

Whereas, the men’s table tennis team of India defeated Barbados in the first match by 3-0 followed by their win against Singapore by 3-0. With two successive wins, the Indian team has reached the quarter-finals of the competition.

Triathlon

Adarsh ended up on 30th position alongside the 33rd position Vishwanath in men’s category TV. On the other hand, Pragnya could achieve the 26th spot with the 28th spot of Sanjana.

Lawn Bowls

Tania played against Falkland Islands’ player Daphne and lost the match with a close margin of 20-21.

In men’s triple sectional play, Scotland defeated India by a score line of 19-12.
