Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni on Saturday (November 20) revealed he will take a call on featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in due course. The wicketkeeper-batter led CSK to their fourth title in the previous edition. “I will think about it, there is a lot of time, right now we are just in November. IPL 2022 will be played in April,” said Dhoni at an event in Chennai.
Earlier, MS Dhoni had said that he will play his last game in Chennai but admitted that CSK may not retain him owing to the new retention policy. The IPL is set for revival in the 2022 season as two new teams, Ahmadabad and Lucknow are due to join the league. For several years, Dhoni has mentioned that he wishes to serve CSK with respect and dignity. Although his batting prowess has declined over the years, Dhoni remains as one of the best tacticians of the game.
During this year’s IPL as well, his plans and strategies were spot on. That might prompt CSK management to have him for one more season. Dhoni though has remained tight-lipped about his future and said it is essential to make a decision that is in favour of the team.
“Again I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in, we have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,” Dhoni told broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match conference.
