CSK official on Sanju Samson rumours

Sanju Samson’s next IPL destination could be different, as rumours of him joining Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have grown stronger on social media since the end of IPL 2025.

Several reports have suggested that CSK might try to bring in the Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper. A report on Cricbuzz even mentioned that a CSK official confirmed the rumours might be true. The official also said that other franchises could be interested in the star wicketkeeper-batter.

He said, "We are definitely looking at Sanju. He is an Indian batter, who is a keeper and an opener. So if he is available, we will certainly have a look at the option of having him in our fold. Who we will trade him with we have not taken that call because the matter has not gone that far. But yes, in principle, we are interested."

Both CSK and RR had a disappointing IPL 2025 season. Neither team made it to the playoffs. CSK finished at the bottom of the table for the first time in their IPL history. They earned just eight points from 14 matches, with a net run rate of -0.647. RR finished ninth, also with eight points from 14 games, but with a slightly better net run rate of -0.549.

Sanju Samson missed several matches due to injury, and Riyan Parag stepped in as the stand-in captain. Samson played nine matches and scored 285 runs. His strike rate was 140.39, and he hit one fifty during the season.

Now, all eyes are on the trade window to see if the rumours come true—will Samson wear the CSK jersey next season or play for another team?

Samson has had a long IPL journey. He started with RR in 2013 and played until 2015. Then he moved to the Delhi Daredevils for two seasons (2016–2017). In 2018, he returned to RR and has been a key player since then.

He led the team to the final in 2022. In his IPL career so far, Samson has scored 4704 runs in 177 games, with an average of 30.94 and a strike rate of 139.04. He has hit 26 fifties and three centuries.
