For the first time since January 2022, India became the world's number-one Test side. The fans were ecstatic as their national side was the number one side in the longest format. However, a few hours later, the World Cricket Governing Council figured that there was a technical fault in their website. The problem had led to the Rohit Sharma-led side becoming the top-level side.

Hilariously enough, the World's Number Two Test side, India, played their last Test series in December last year. They beat Asian neighbors 2-0, Bangladesh in their backyard. On the other hand, the Aussies crushed South Africa by 2-0 in a three-match series. Since then, both teams haven't played a Test match. However, the Pat Cummins-led side lost their top spot for a few hours.

However, the Apex Council corrected their mistake and put the respective on their positions in the Test rankings. At the moment, the Kangaroos are leading the charts with 125 rating points. On the other hand, the Asian side is only 10 rating points less than Australia.

India will play Australia for a place in the final of WTC 2021-23

In less than a month later, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy rivals will lock horns in India. Talking about their positions in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle 2021-23, Australia is in the number one spot. They have a 75.56 win percentage to their name and almost qualified for the final. However, they need to ensure that even if they lose the series, they don't by too big a margin.

On the other hand, India needs to win their last series of the cycle by any margin to reach their second final of the tournament. In the WTC cycle 2019-21, they reached the final and lost to New Zealand, which is currently ruled out of the finals race. Meanwhile, India would also want to keep their streak of winning the Test series against Australia alive since 2017. The last time Australia won the BGT trophy was way back in 2014-15 at home
