The IPL 2025 is set to resume on 17 May 2025, as the BCCI has announced a revised schedule. According to that, the final will now take place on 3 June, while six venues will host the remaining 17 games. Even the postponed Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs. Delhi Capitals (DC) match is set to be replayed.
However, reports have emerged regarding the availability of the Australian players, who had already returned home during the competition's suspension because of the war-like tensions between India and Pakistan. According to the reports, if any Australian players refuse to return for the remainder of the IPL 2025, Cricket Australia will back them.
"Cricket Australia will support players in their individual decisions whether to return to India or not," CA said in a statement. "Team management will work through preparation implications for the World Test Championship final for those players who choose to play in the remaining IPL matches. We are maintaining communication with the Australian Government and BCCI around security arrangements and safety."
Australia and South Africa are set to play against each other in the WTC 2025 Final at Lord’s
Australia are scheduled to play South Africa in the final of the World Test Championship 2025 (WTC 2025) from 11 to 15 June. Hence, the players who are going to be part of that final, and are also part of their respective IPL franchises, might not return to get prepared for the final at Lord’s.
Josh Hazlewood is currently nursing a shoulder injury and is most likely to miss the initial games for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), even if he returns for the remainder of the competition. Although he is expected to be fit for the WTC final. So, he is most likely not to return.
Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Mitchell Starc is also most likely not to return, as his manager has given a possible no, despite declining to make any statement to the media. Another four Australian players who are in the IPL are skipper Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Travis Head (Sunrisers Hyderabad), and Josh Inglis (Punjab Kings).
Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether these star Aussies will come back to help their respective franchises in the remainder of the IPL 2025 when it resumes. Otherwise, things will get tricky for those teams going forward.
