Cricket Australia (CA) failed to reduce their losses when it announced a net deficit of A$11.3 million ($7.34 million) for the 2024–25 fiscal year on Thursday. This was due to a sharp increase in expenses that offset a spike in revenue from hosting the Border-Gavaskar series against India, a powerhouse, which ended 3-1 in favour of the hosts.
CA reported at its Annual General Meeting that revenue had increased from A$453.7 million to about A$50 million. The new domestic broadcast contract and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which was attended by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are primarily responsible for the revenue increase.
According to CA, the five-match Test series against India and the media arrangement increased earnings by A$49.2 million. However, marketing for the Indian series and financing the teams' additional 70-day international trips resulted in a rise in spending.
The loss has been questioned by Cricket Victoria (CV). At the AGM, CV chairman Ross Hepburn stated, "CA is showing a financial loss for another year, with the member funds in deficit."
Distributions to CA's member states and territories, however, hardly changed, increasing to A$120.9 million from the year before by A$800,000. Cricket Victoria (CV), a member state, denounced CA for the yearly loss, claiming that despite extensive and expensive reviews, the governing body had not produced much financial progress.
"For another year, CA is presenting a financial loss with a balance sheet showing member funds in deficit. It is especially disappointing that since FY2019, Cricket Australia's accounts have shown significant cumulative loss, excluding COVID-related impacts and World Cup revenue," CV chairman Ross Hepburn said at the AGM.
With the Ashes series against England beginning in Perth on November 21, 2025, CA Chief Executive Todd Greenberg expressed optimism for the forthcoming fiscal year. According to him, the board anticipated a robust rebound in sponsorship and commercial revenue in 2025–2026, rising from 69 million to 86 million Australian dollars.
“The Ashes and India white-ball content in FY26 is expected to deliver significant profit to CA and this will enable CA to rebuild its net assets and cash reserves for the next cycle,” CA CFO Sarah Pragnell said.
