Ahead of the fixture against Chennai on Sunday, Delhi have been dealt with a blow as one of their net bowlers has been tested positive for Covid-19. It is learnt that he along with another bowler, who was sharing the room with him, have been isolated.
As per the Indian T20 League protocols, all the players will now have to undergo another round of testing and will have to stay isolated in their respective rooms until the results come out. Well, this isn’t the first time when the franchise have been hit with Covid-19 cases in the ongoing season.
Earlier, Ricky Ponting was told to isolate himself after one of his family members returned with a positive test. Last month, Mitchell Marsh, Tim Siefert, and four support staff members were also tested positive for Covid-19. As a result of that, the governing council also made a change in their schedule and the venue for a couple of games.
Interestingly, Delhi is the only team this season, who have dealt with Covid-19 cases. No other franchises have dealt with Covid-19 cases thus far in the competition. Rishabh Pant and Co. are scheduled to play their next game against Chennai on Sunday at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium in Mumbai.
The franchise currently find itself at number five on the points table with 5 wins in 10 matches. Delhi registered a 21-run win over Hyderabad in their last match. They exhibited a brilliant show with the bat and notched a mammoth score of 207 runs in the first innings.
David Warner played another masterclass knock of 92 runs in 58 balls, including 12 fours and 3 sixes. Rovman Powell struck his first fifty in the league as he played an unbeaten knock of 67 runs in just 35 deliveries, a knock which was studded with 3 fours and 6 sixes.
Hyderabad fought hard with the bat but fell 21 runs short in the end. Anrich Nortje made his comeback in the last game. He finished with bowling returns of 1 for 35 in 4 overs.
