With the Indian T20 League 2023 just months away, the teams got involved in a strategic war in the mini-auction that took place on December 23, in Kochi, in the hope to turn things around from the previous editions and clinch the prestigious title in the approaching season.

While the likes of Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, Cameron Green, Harry Brook and Jason Holder made it to respective teams for whopping amounts, when the least expected, the Chennai franchise made a bid for Ajinkya Rahane and roped him in for a base price of INR 50 lakh. Fans, on the other hand, were quick enough to draw comparisons to Cheteshwar Pujara and claimed that the management is carrying on the tradition of picking up traditional Test players.

In other news, the Chennai franchise managed to rope in Stokes as well, but for a whopping amount of INR 16.25 crore. However, fans, who were upset with the bid for Rahane, were left stunned by the massive investment, in what can be called the best buy for the franchise after MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina way back in 2008.

However, fans left no stone unturned to come up with memes for Chennai’s bid for the Indian Test batter. However, the likes of Stokes and Rahane will join hands with Dhoni, not for the first time as they were a part of the Pune franchise way back in 2017. Notably, this would be the first time that they will be playing under the captaincy of Dhoni.

In other news, former Chennai player Curran, made a cut to the Punjab franchise for a whopping INR 18.5 crore, eventually becoming the costliest bid in the history of the Indian T20 League. Holder, the Caribbean star, was roped in by Rajasthan for INR 5.5 crore, while Mayank Agarwal made it to the Hyderabad franchise for INR 8.25 crore.

As things stand, let us take a look at a few memes that flooded Twitter post-Chennai’s bid for Rahane in the mini-auction:
