Skipper, Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first. Virat Kohli, once again, got out for a duck on the very first ball he faced. However, Faf du Plessis played another captaincy knock with the bat.

He stitched a 105-run partnership with Rajat Patidar as the duo led an outstanding recovery. Rajat Patidar got out after scoring a valuable knock of 48 runs in 38 balls. However, du Plessis stayed till the end and went on to play an unbeaten knock of 73 runs in just 50 balls, a knock which was laced with 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Glenn Maxwell also played a handy knock of 33 runs in 24 balls, however, it was Dinesh Karthik’s 8-ball 30-run cameo in the end, which helped the team reach a formidable score of 192 runs on the board. Hyderabad's bowling unit had another bad outing with the ball. J Suchith returned with exceptional figures of 2 for 30 in 4 overs. However, all the pacers went for plenty of runs in their bowling spells.

In pursuit of the score, Hyderabad made a horrible start. Skipper, Kane Williamson got run-out without even facing a ball. On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma got out bowled in only the 3rd delivery of his innings. Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram then added 49 runs for the third wicket but the latter was struggling to time the ball well on a slow pitch at Wankhede Stadium.

Hasaranga, eventually, broke the partnership after he had Markram (21 off 27) caught at long-on in the 9th over of the innings. Rahul Tripathi, however, was scoring boundaries at the other hand and kept the hopes alive for Hyderabad. However, wickets kept falling regularly at the other end.

Nicholas Pooran, couldn’t replicate the knock he played in the last match. The Sri Lankan spinner sent him back as well in the 13th over of the innings. The other batsmen in the batting line got out in just single-digit scores. Rahul Tripathi’s (58 off 37) wicket in the 16th over ended Hyderabad’s hopes of winning the match. In the end, they were bundled out for just 125 runs.
