The Champions Trophy 2025 is right around the corner which would be hosted in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The tournament is returning after a long wait of eight years. It was last hosted in England where India and Pakistan played the finals with Pakistan emerging victorious.
The openers play an important role in setting the tone of the match with their knocks turning out more often than not the match-defining knocks. All the teams have announced their squads for the tournament, raring to go for the trophy. Let us see the opening pairs these teams might have in this tournament.
Starting with the champions, Pakistan has recalled the duties of Fakhar Zaman who is likely to be joined by Usman Khan since their regular opener Saim Ayub has not been fit from the injury. The runners-up India seems sure with the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill while they will also be tempted to go for the southpaw Jaiswal.
Bangladesh seems to have a good top order in the names of Towhid Hridoy, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tanzid Hasan, where the skipper Shanto has pushed himself to number three. Travis Head is one confirmed opener for Australia while they might use either Matthew Short or Steve Smith for the opening pair.
Afghanistan is one of the teams that has their openers settled with the pair of Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz which has been working for them for a while now. England too has now settled with their opening pair of Ben Duckett and Phil Salt that they have been using in the ongoing India tour.
The New Zealand side will be going with their duo of Devon Conway and Will Young as their openers for the tournament. Tony de Zorzi and Temba Bavuma might be the perfect blend of youth and experience for the Proteas side for the Champions Trophy 2025.
It would be interesting to see which of these pairs turns out to be the most successful one in this tournament.
