New Zealand lost the final in the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai to Team India. However, for the Kiwis, along with Rachin Ravindra, who won the Golden Bat for scoring the most runs, Matt Henry was a standout performer with the ball.

He won the Golden Ball award for taking the most wickets in the tournament, claiming 10 scalps in four innings, including a five-wicket haul. Unfortunately, he missed the final against India due to a shoulder injury sustained in the semi-final, and New Zealand dearly missed his presence in the title clash.

Over the years, many top bowlers have delivered match-winning performances and won the prestigious Golden Ball award. In the 1998 edition, South Africa emerged as champions, and Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis took eight wickets in three matches, including a five-wicket haul.

In the 2000 edition, India finished as runners-up after losing to New Zealand, but Venkatesh Prasad was the highest wicket-taker, picking up eight wickets in four innings.

The 2002 edition saw India and Sri Lanka declared joint winners, and Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan finished as the leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in five matches, including a four-wicket haul.

England finished as runners-up in the 2004 edition after losing to West Indies in the final, but Andrew Flintoff had an excellent tournament with the ball, taking nine wickets in four matches. In the 2006 edition, West Indies failed to defend their title, losing to Australia in the final.

However, their pacer Jerome Taylor led the wicket charts with 13 wickets in seven matches, including a four-fer. The 2009 edition saw South Africa’s Wayne Parnell dominate with the ball, picking up 11 wickets in just three matches, including a five-wicket haul.

India lifted the trophy in the 2013 edition, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball, finishing as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets in five matches. In the 2017 edition, Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India to lift the trophy, and Hasan Ali claimed the Golden Ball award for taking 13 wickets in five matches—the joint-most wickets in a single edition of the tournament to date.
