Champions Trophy: Bangladesh's strongest starting playing XI

One format where Bangladesh can compete or even beat big teams is ODIs. More often than not, the Tigers punch above their weight and they will be keen on doing so yet again in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Moreover, Bangladesh would also be looking to make a statement after a poor show in the World Cup in 2023. They are slotted in Group A of the tournament alongside hosts Pakistan, India and New Zealand.

Bangladesh will miss Shakib Al Hasan in the showpiece event who wasn’t picked after being banned from bowling and failing multiple tests as well. In his absence, here’s the strongest playing XI of Bangladesh for Champions Trophy:

Bangladesh’s top three is not looking that great for the Champions Trophy. They haven’t played ODIs recently either as all the players were busy playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Parvez Hossain had a decent BPL stint and he is expected to open alongside Tanzid Hasan. Soumya Sarkar is another opening option with them in the squad but he is an unlikely starter for now.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto will be low on confidence after a not so great BPL but Bangladesh’s middle-order is their strength. Towhid Hridoy, Rahim and Mahmudullah form a strong core of their line-up and in the middle overs, expect them to take the attack to the opposition.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain are the two spinners with the former being more of an all-rounder who possesses the ability even to bat in top six with his technique. Rishad is also no mug with the bat and contributes crucial runs down the order. Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed are the certain starters as the duo will take the new ball. Bangladesh are also expected to unleash the pace of Nahid Rana in the Champions Trophy who clocks up to 150 kph consistently and can trouble the batters.
