Heavy rain in Rawalpindi forced the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh to be abandoned, ending both teams' Champions Trophy campaigns with just one point each from three games. However, their fate had already been sealed before this encounter, as both teams were eliminated after losing their first two matches.
As the host nation and defending champions, Pakistan endured a disastrous tournament, failing to register a single win. Reflecting on the team’s poor performance, captain Mohammad Rizwan expressed his disappointment:
"We wanted to do well and perform in front of our nation. The expectations are very high. We didn't perform well, and it was disappointing for us. You can learn from your mistakes. We have made mistakes in the last few games. Hopefully, we can learn from these. We are next going to New Zealand, and hopefully, we can perform there, and the mistakes that we did against New Zealand here in Pakistan, we can learn from that. And we will do better in New Zealand."
He further added, "We are all very disappointed. We are all here for the nation. Pakistan is our priority, and the expectation from us is very high. We are upset, and we are accepting that we didn't do well. Hopefully, we will do more hard work and come back."
"I am very disappointed.” - Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also shared his frustration over the washout:
"I am very disappointed. We really wanted to play this match, but we could not do anything about the weather. The way we held the game for long periods in the two matches was very inspiring for us. We hope we can learn from our mistakes.”
He further added, “I have to practice properly in the nets. We have to think about strike rotation. We will make a proper plan and execute it. I hope the boys will understand what we need to do."
With this result, only one match remains in Group A, as India will face New Zealand in Dubai on March 2. The winner of that contest will determine the group topper.
Brief scores:
