Virat Kohli’s match-winning unbeaten century powered India to a six-wicket win, earning him the Player of the Match award. After winning the toss, Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan opted to bat first.

Openers Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam made a steady start in the first eight overs before both fell in quick succession—Hardik Pandya dismissed Babar, while Axar Patel’s brilliant direct hit sent Imam back. Rizwan and Saud Shakeel then stitched together a 104-run stand for the third wicket, stabilising the innings.

However, Axar Patel struck again, removing Rizwan for 46. Shakeel scored 62 before becoming Hardik’s second victim. Pakistan’s middle order struggled as Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Tayyab Tahir, and Kuldeep Yadav took two consecutive wickets, nearly securing a hat-trick.

Though he missed out, he still finished with three wickets. Pakistan collapsed, losing their last five wickets for just 41 runs in seven overs, getting bowled out for 241 in 49.4 overs. Their struggle was evident as they played 147 dot balls, showing a lack of intent.

Let’s take a look at India’s chase

Chasing 242, India’s batters came out with a positive and attacking mindset, making full use of the new ball under the lights. Skipper Rohit Sharma got off to a brisk start, scoring 20 off 15 balls before Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled him with a brilliant delivery. Kohli then took charge, adding 69 runs for the second wicket with an in-form Shubman Gill, who fell four runs short of a well-deserved fifty after an unplayable delivery from Abrar Ahmed.

Shreyas Iyer joined Kohli at the crease, and the duo put together a crucial 114-run partnership for the third wicket. Iyer looked composed, scoring 56 off 67 balls before getting out. Kohli remained unbeaten till the end, bringing up his 82nd international century with a boundary to seal the win with six wickets to spare.

India will next face New Zealand on 2 March at the same venue, while Pakistan will take on Bangladesh on 27 February in Rawalpindi.
