Champions Trophy 2025: Who won yesterday's game between India vs Bangladesh?

Team India began their Champions Trophy campaign on a winning note, defeating Bangladesh by six wickets at the Dubai International Stadium. The Men in Blue successfully chased down the 229-run target with six wickets in hand. Shubman Gill was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten century, which guided India to victory.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto opted to bat first. However, it was a disastrous start as they lost two wickets in the first two overs. Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana struck early, dismissing Soumya Sarkar and Shanto for ducks. The collapse continued, and Bangladesh found themselves struggling at 35/5.

Axar Patel dented Bangladesh’s hopes by taking two quick wickets—Tanzid Hasan (25) and Mushfiqur Rahim (0)—off consecutive deliveries. He had a chance to claim a hat-trick, but Rohit Sharma dropped a catch, denying him the historic feat.

Amidst the early setbacks, Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali steadied the innings with a crucial 154-run partnership. Hridoy led the fightback with a determined century, while Jaker contributed 68. Towards the end, Rishad Hossain played a quick cameo, smashing two sixes and one boundary for 18 runs. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 228 in 49.4 overs.

For India, Shami was the standout bowler, picking up 5/53. Harshit Rana impressed on his debut with three wickets, while Axar finished with two.

Let’s take a look at India’s chase

India got off to an attacking start, with openers Rohit Sharma and Gill putting on 69 runs for the first wicket. Rohit played a brisk knock of 41 off 36 balls before getting out. Virat Kohli managed 22 off 38 balls but once again fell to a leg-spinner in an ODI match.

Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel failed to make significant contributions, but KL Rahul, coming in at No. 6, anchored the chase with an unbeaten 41 off 47 balls. At the other end, Gill reached his century and remained not out on 101 off 129 deliveries, steering India to victory.
