India recently lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval against Australia recently. After this loss, India’s hunt for a major trophy continues since 2013. Just like many occasions, again the playing XI raised questions among fans as the Men in Blue did not pick the number one ranked Test bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin into the equation.

Now, they will be in action again in West Indies for a full-fledged tour, consisting of two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. But, ahead of this series, the former Team India player, Dilip Vengsarkar came up with an accusation on the selectors. He claimed that the Team India selectors have been lacking proper vision for the last six to seven years.

Team India selectors have failed to impress Dilip Vengsarkar in the last six to seven months

As quoted by the Hindustan Times, he said: “The unfortunate part is that the selectors I have seen over the last six-seven years neither have the vision, deep knowledge about the game or cricketing sense. They made Shikhar Dhawan India captain (when tours overlapped and main players were unavailable); it is where you can groom the future captain.”

“You haven’t groomed anybody. You just play as it comes. You talk about the richest cricket board in the world, where is the bench strength? Just having IPL, earning crores of rupees in media rights, it should not be the only achievement,” he further added. Chetan Sharma was the former chief selector but he gave resignation from his position. After that, other selectors are Shiv Sunder Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath.

However, in this upcoming West Indies tour, fans are expecting some changes in the squad. Some new faces can be included also. But, reports have come out that Rohit Sharma might have a chat with selectors after the West Indies series, especially about the captaincy in the red-ball format.
