On 19 July 2023, India Women locked horns with Bangladesh Women in the second ODI match in Mirpur. In the series opener, India suffered a shocking defeat and it was a historic moment for the home team as it was Bangladesh’s first victory over India in the history of ODI. So, the home team were looking for another win to seal the series.

While Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls were looking for a win to keep them alive in the series. Speaking of the match, the Bangladesh skipper, Nigar Sultana won the toss and opted to bowl first. While batting first, India managed to score 228 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues was the star as she scored 86 runs off 78 balls, including nine fours.

India Women defeated Bangladesh Women by 108 runs

Along with her, skipper, Harmanpreet scored 52 runs off 88 balls, including three fours. Apart from them, Harleen Deol and Smriti Mandhana came up with some significant contributions as they set up a 229-run target for the home side. But, in reply, Bangladesh batters failed miserably as they got bundled out for just 120 runs in 35.1 overs. With the ball, also Jemimah took four wickets for three runs in 3.1 overs. Along with her, Devika Vaidya took three wickets while Meghna Singh, Deepti Sharma, and Sneh Rana grabbed one wicket each.

So, fans lauded the all-round performance from Jemimah as she won the Player of the Match award. During the post-match presentation, she said: “I was under pressure, because we knew how crucial this game was. Smriti, Yasti gave us a good start. Harman and I played well. Harleen played well and then the bowlers were brilliant. I just wanted to pitch in the right area. Glad that the captain believed in me.” Skipper, Harmanpreet said: “We wanted to bat only, and it was a great opportunity to bat first and put up a decent total. One of me and Jemi wanted to play till the end. We wanted to put a good stand.”
