On 23 July 2023, day four of the ongoing second Test between India and West Indies happened as the home side began the day with a score of 229 runs for five wickets. All eyes were on Team India bowlers whether they would be able to take the remaining wickets quickly to take a handsome lead.

However, they managed to put up a great show as the Windies added just 26 runs in the first session and they got bundled out for 255 runs in 115.4 overs. They lasted for 7.4 overs only and Mohammed Siraj was the star of the show. He took four out of those five wickets and finished his spell in the innings with a fifer. Notably, it turned out to be Siraj’s best bowling figure in Tests as he took five wickets for 60 runs in 23.4 overs. 

India gained a 183-run lead after WI’s first innings

Speaking of the match, India batted first and got bundled out for 438 runs in 128 overs. Virat Kohli scored his 76th international century as he scored 121 runs off 206 balls. Along with him, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin scored fifties. For the home side, both Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican grabbed three wickets each. In reply, West Indies scored 255 runs and thus, the Men in Blue managed a huge lead of 183 runs. For India, apart from Siraj’s fifer, Ashwin took one wicket while Jadeja also grabbed two wickets.

On his international debut, Mukesh Kumar also took two wickets for 48 runs in 18 overs. However, India managed a great start to their second innings, courtesy of Rohit and Jaiswal. Rohit scored a 35-ball fifty before getting out on 57 runs off 44 balls, including five fours and three sixes. Jaiswal was batting on 37* runs off 28 balls along with Shubman Gill as India went to Lunch with a score of 98 runs in 12 overs for one wicket, with a lead of 281 runs. Rohit and Jaiswal put up a 98-run opening partnership.
