In the warm-up game against Australia, he took arguably one of the best catches in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. In the last over of the game, Mohammed Shami bowled a full length delivery to Pat Cummins. The latter played a shot towards long-on and it looked like the white Kookaburra will sail over the boundary for a six. However, Kohli made sure that the ball sticks in his hand. The catch was crucial at the point as the home team needed seven runs off four balls at the time.

Talking about the game, India pulled off a victory from the jaws of defeat. In the last over, the Aaron Finch-led side needed 11 runs of the last over. However, Shami took three wickets in the last over to win the game for his side by six runs.

After the game, India skipper Rohit Sharma opened up on why he kept Shami for the last over. For the unversed, the right-arm pacer didn't bowled for the rest of the game. He only came out to bowl the last over of the game. Meanwhile, Sharma said that he wanted to give Shami a taste of the challenge of bowling in the death overs.

"Honestly, he is coming back after a long time. So we just wanted to give him an over. This was always the plan from the beginning," Rohit said on Star Sports. "He comes and bowls at the death. We know how lethal he can be with the new ball. We just wanted to give him a little bit of a challenge, coming and bowling that death over and we saw what it was."
