In a recent and most shocking piece of news, the star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to part ways with his current franchise Gujarat Titans; his return to his old franchise Mumbai Indians. It has also been learned that it will be completely an all-cash deal between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.
It means that Gujarat Titans will be receiving INR 15 crore in Hardik Pandya’s trade instead of swapping him with any player. It is also considered as one of the most expensive trades in the history of the tournament as it’s a full move on a single player by any franchise.
“Barring any last-minute changes, Hardik Pandya is set to leave Gujarat Titans and return to Mumbai Indians, where he started his IPL career in 2015. ESPNcricinfo has learned the trade is an all-cash deal, with Mumbai paying INR 15 crore ($1.8 million approx.) to Titans to secure Hardik, ahead of the 2024 IPL player auction on December 19,” reads a report in ESPNCricinfo.
Hardik Pandya back to the team where he had begun his IPL journey
Notably, Hardik Pandya was picked by the Gujarat Titans in a massive amount in 2022 as it was the year of debut for the franchise in the tournament. Hardik led the Titans to win the glorious IPL title in their first-ever IPL appearance. Subsequently, the golden run of the Titans continued in Hardik’s captaincy as they made it to the final of the Indian Premier League 2023, where they lost to Chennai and ended up as the runners-up of the tournament.
Now, Gujarat Titans will be coming to the Indian Premier League 2024 with a new captain as Hardik Pandya’s transfer to the Mumbai Indians is no more a rumour and is confirmed. Notably, it was only the Mumbai Indians, where Pandya made his Indian Premier League debut 8 years back in the year 2015.
He had also been part of the IPL title-winning side on four occasions from 2015 to 2020, before moving on to Titans in 2022.
