For the first time in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, it looked like the Delhi Capitals (DC) played without any pressure as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 7 wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 6. With this win, they also avenged their previous loss against RCB, which came in the 20th match of the season.
Coming to the 1st innings, it was again the magnificent duo of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, who produced the start their side needed. They put on 82 before Mitchell Marsh broke the partnership and sent Du Plessis back to the pavilion in the 10 overs to give DC momentum. However, he struck again in the same over and dismissed Glenn Maxwell on a golden duck.
But sending Mahipal Lomror early certainly worked for RCB as he began by attacking the spinners and made a quick 29-ball 54 with 3 sixes and 6 fours with clean and crisp striking, and despite Kohli slowing down and the others not getting the big hits, it was Lomror's innings that gave RCB a fighting total of 181 runs.
A brilliant all-round performance by DC
Marsh bowled really well for DC as he picked up two wickets in 3 overs and conceded only 21 runs.
Apart from him, Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar also bowled well but Axar went wicketless, however, he conceded only 17 runs while Mukesh took 1 wicket after conceding 30 runs in 3 overs. In reply, skipper David Warner started really well as he looked in great touch, Phil Salt also took charge against the best powerplay bowler of this IPL Mohammed Siraj, as he hit him for two sixes and a four.
Warner was tricked by a slower one from Josh Hazlewood, but his replacement allrounder Marsh kept up the ante. Salt also just didn't relent, as he smoked six sixes in his knock of 87. Both of these batters couldn't finish the game off, but that allowed Rilee Rossouw to get a hit in with a brisk 35 off just 22 balls.
