Pakistan got off to a shaky start as they tried to extend the lead in the second innings. Mitchell Starc bowled a dream delivery to dismiss opener Abdullah Shafique for a duck in the very first over. Josh Hazlewood joined the party by dismissing rival skipper Shan Masood for a golden duck in the second over. After a disastrous start, Saim Ayub and former captain Babar Azam steadied the ship for a while.

Nathan Lyon broke the 50+ partnership 18th over by dismissing young Ayub. A few overs later, Aussies part-time spinner Travis Head got rid of Babar, and the right-hander recorded yet another failure on the Australian tour. Hazlewood returned to the attack and bowled an incredible over to take three more wickets, putting Australia in command.
