The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the Indian Premier League 2025 season indefinitely due to the ongoing cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
This news came out after the IPL officials decided to suspend Thursday’s game between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) midway in 10.1 overs during the first innings. While the BCCI had all options on the table, the board decided on a temporary suspension, keeping the safety of players, support staff, and all stakeholders involved in the cash-rich league.
For now, the BCCI has a few immediate concerns, like the safe movement of all teams, players, broadcast crews, and the league staff from Dharamsala to New Delhi with the best security possible.
While the airport in Dharamsala and nearby areas were closed, the players and support staff of both teams reportedly travelled to a safer place by a special train organized by the BCCI on Friday morning.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal earlier stated that any further decisions would be made after the government’s consultation.
"We are reviewing the situation. It's evolving, and we haven't received any directive from the government yet. Any decision will be taken keeping all logistical considerations and the best interests of stakeholders in mind," Dhumal had said earlier.
Including the game that got called off on Thursday, IPL 2025 has had 58 games this season. Only 12 more games were left in the group stage, with playoffs supposed to take place in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
Speaking about the current standings, Gujarat Titans are on top of the points table with 16 points, amassing eight wins and suffering three defeats. RCB and PBKS hold the second and third ranks with 16 and 15 points respectively, while Mumbai Indians are at the fourth rank with 14 points.
