Brad Haddin gives a piece of advice to Shubman Gill

Former Australian keeper-batter Brad Haddin has stated that the Indian Test captain Shubman Gill needs an attitude adjustment for his team to get into the winning ways in the ongoing five-match Test series against England.

Furthermore, Haddin asserted that the standout feature for any international side has to be great fielding efforts from their fielders. Notably, Indian fielders dropped as many as eight catches in the Leeds Test as India suffered a five-wicket loss.

"Every great team, no matter what year you’re playing, the one standout feature they’ve always had is that they’ve been a great fielding team. And I think that is one legacy Gill has started to leave now on this team. He needs an attitude adjustment,” Haddin said on the LiSTNR podcast.

Furthermore, Haddin reckoned that the catching was horrible in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2025 season. He added that India’s batting collapse was also one of the reasons behind India’s loss to England in the Leeds Test.

"If you want to field well and compete the whole time, it’s only your attitude. You can do all your technical work off the field and have as many coaches as anyone, but it won't matter. Even in the IPL this year, the catching was horrible. And that could be a byproduct,” he added.

"What hasn't happened for the first time is India's batting collapse. There’s a lot of pressure on that top order. If you get through them, they will run through the remaining," Haddin concluded.

Notably, India collapsed from 430/3 to 471 runs, losing seven wickets for just 41 runs. Later in the second innings, they collapsed from 287/3 to 364 all out, losing the last seven wickets for 77 runs. The second Test is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
